Why We Created Sorted Pets

I’m proud to announce that I’ve joined forces with two talented people, Philip King and Sam, to launch a new venture called SortedPets.

For those who know me, this probably won’t come as much of a surprise. Alongside my work as a digital consultant, I’ve always been passionate about animals. Whether it’s fostering cats, rescuing rabbits, supporting charities or simply spending time with my own pets, animals have always been a huge part of my life.

So when the opportunity came along to help build something that combines my professional experience with a genuine personal passion, it felt like the perfect fit.

Why Another Pet Directory?

Actually, that’s exactly the question we asked ourselves. The truth is that many online pet directories and listing platforms leave a lot to be desired.

Too often they’re packed with outdated information, duplicate listings, poor-quality content and aggressive upselling. Businesses can find themselves paying significant fees for little visibility or value, while pet owners are left trying to work out which listings they can trust.

As a digital marketer, I’ve spent years helping businesses improve their online presence. I’ve seen first-hand how frustrating it can be when companies are asked to pay for listings on websites that add very little value to either the business or the customer.

Quite frankly, many of these websites look spammy, provide a poor user experience and do little to help the businesses they claim to support. We felt there had to be a better way.

Building Something Useful

Our goal with Sorted Pets isn’t simply to create another directory. We want to build a trusted resource that genuinely helps people.

Every listing is reviewed before it goes live, and we’re focused on creating useful content, practical guides and trusted recommendations that help pet owners make informed decisions.

We’re starting with the UK pet sector, but our ambition is much bigger than simply listing businesses.

We want Sorted Pets to become a place where pet owners can discover reliable services, learn from experts and connect with organisations that genuinely care about animal welfare.

How Sorted Pets Helps Pet Owners

Finding the right pet professional isn’t always easy.

Whether you’re looking for a dog walker, pet sitter, trainer, groomer, rehabilitation specialist or charity, there can be dozens of options available and very little information to help you compare them.

SortedPets aims to make that process easier by providing:

  • Clear, consistent business profiles
  • Helpful information and guides
  • Trusted recommendations
  • Easy search by location and service type
  • Access to specialist support services

Ultimately, we want pet owners to feel confident about the choices they make for their animals.

Supporting Pet Businesses

One of the biggest frustrations I hear from businesses is that they are constantly being sold advertising opportunities that don’t deliver results.

Our approach is different.

We want to help businesses increase their visibility while also providing value to pet owners. That means focusing on quality listings, useful content and genuine opportunities for businesses to demonstrate their expertise.

As the platform grows, businesses will benefit from:

  • Increased online visibility
  • Relevant referral traffic
  • Opportunities to share expertise through articles and guides
  • Improved trust through detailed business profiles
  • Access to a highly targeted pet-owning audience

Unlike many listing websites, we’re not interested in creating endless premium tiers and charging extra for basic visibility. We want to build something that works for both businesses and pet owners.

Giving Charities a Voice

Animal charities play an incredible role in supporting pets and pet owners, yet many operate with limited marketing budgets and resources.

That’s why we’re offering free listings for charities.

We also want to help charities reach new audiences by sharing their stories, promoting their work and providing opportunities to contribute expert content to the platform.

We’ve already started conversations with several well-known animal charities and are excited about the knowledge and experience they can bring to the community.

Share Your Expertise with the Pet Community

One of the things we’re particularly passionate about is giving knowledgeable people a platform to share what they know.

We’re actively looking for guest contributors from across the pet industry. Whether you’re a trainer, groomer, therapist, behaviourist, charity volunteer, breeder, rehabilitation specialist or simply someone with valuable experience to share, we’d love to hear from you.

You don’t need a huge social media following or a famous name. What matters is your passion, your expertise and your desire to help pet owners make better decisions for their animals.

By sharing practical advice, experiences and specialist knowledge, we can build a resource that genuinely benefits the pet community while helping contributors raise awareness of the work they do.

If you have something useful to say, we’d love to give you a voice, please get in touch – gemma@greenopal.co.uk

As we are talking about sharing, I thought I would share a couple of the animals in my life –

A Project Close to My Heart

There are plenty of reasons why I enjoy working in digital marketing, but the projects I enjoy most are those that make a positive difference.

SortedPets combines everything I care about: helping businesses succeed, supporting charities and improving outcomes for animals and their owners.

We’re still at the beginning of the journey, but I’m incredibly excited about what we’re building and the impact it can have. If you’re a pet business, charity, animal expert or potential contributor who would like to be involved, I’d love to hear from you.

After all, when it comes to our pets, we all want to make the best choices possible.
